काठमाडौं । विनोद त्रिपाठी नेपालका वरिष्ठ पत्रकार हुन् । उनले विगत ३० वर्षदेखि निरन्तर रूपमा पत्रकारिता गर्दै आएका छन् । मुलधारको पत्रकारितामा त्रिपाठीको महत्वपूर्ण भूमिका रहेको छ ।
कास्की जिल्लाको कालिकास्थान गाउँमा जन्मिएका र हाल पोखरा महानगरपालिका–३१ लामास्वारामा स्थायी बसोबास रहेका त्रिपाठी अहिले राजधानी काठमाडौंबाट पत्रकारिता गरिरहेका छन् ।
त्रिभुवन विश्वविद्यालयबाट स्नातक तह उत्तीर्ण गरेका उनले समाजशास्त्रमा राजनीति विषय अध्ययन गरेका छन् । सोही विषयमा उनले कलम चलाउँदै आएका छन् ।
नेपालमा सञ्चालित माओवादी सशस्त्र द्वन्द्वका समयमा शसक्त, निडर, निर्भीक, इमानदार र पेशागत मर्यादामा रहेर समाचार लेख्दै चर्चित बनेका त्रिपाठी वि.सं. २०६० देखि २०७० सम्म निकै चर्चामा रहेका थिए । उनले जोखिमपूर्ण समाचार प्रकाशन गरेर दर्जनौँ नागरिकको ज्यान बचाएका छन् ।
त्रिपाठीले वि.सं. २०५२ सालदेखि पोखराको जनमत दैनिकबाट पत्रकारिता सुरु गरेका थिए । त्यसपछि देशान्तर साप्ताहिक, विमर्श साप्ताहिक, पुनर्जागरण साप्ताहिक र घटना तथा विचार साप्ताहिकमा पोखराबाट रिपोर्टिङ गरेका थिए ।
वि.सं. २०५९ साल भदौमा उनी नेपालको सबैभन्दा ठूलो मिडिया हाउस कान्तिपुर पब्लिकेशन्स प्रा.लि.मा नियुक्त भएका थिए । सो समयमा माओवादी द्वन्द्व उत्कर्षमा थियो । उनले बागलुङ जिल्लाका दुर्गम गाउँहरूबाट साढे दुई वर्षसम्म माओवादी युद्धसम्बन्धी समाचार लेखे ।
त्यस क्रममा पत्रकार त्रिपाठीलाई माओवादीले तीन दिनसम्म अपहरण गरी अज्ञात जंगलमा राखेका थिए । नेकपा एमालेका जिल्ला सचिव श्रीप्रसाद शर्मा र पत्रकार हरिनारायण गौतमको रोहबरमा उनी रिहा भए । त्रिपाठीको निष्पक्ष र इमानदार पत्रकारिताको कारण माओवादी पक्षले माफी समेत मागेको थियो ।
बागलुङको गल्कोटमा सेनाले स्थानीयको जग्गा घेरेर बनाएको क्याम्पबारे समाचार प्रकाशन गरेर त्रिपाठीले स्थानीय जनताको पक्षमा गुन लगाएका थिए । उनका समाचारहरूले धेरै सामाजिक तथा राजनीतिक व्यक्तिहरूको ज्यान जोगिएको इतिहास छ । अहिले पनि बागलुङबासीले उनको पत्रकारिताको उच्च प्रशंसा गर्छन् ।
त्यसपछि त्रिपाठी कान्तिपुरको क्षेत्रीय कार्यालय चितवन भरतपुरमा सरुवा भए । चितवनमा उनले माओवादीद्वारा अवैध चन्दा संकलनको विषयमा समाचार लेखेर जनताको मन जिते । वि.सं. २०६२ मंसिरमा काभ्रे जिल्लाको कामीडाँडाबाट चितवनको शक्तिखोर शिविरमा रहेका माओवादी लडाकुहरूबारे उनी सर्वाधिक समाचार लेख्ने पत्रकार बने ।
उनका समाचारहरू कान्तिपुर राष्ट्रिय दैनिक, द काठमाडौँ पोस्ट, कान्तिपुर अनलाइन र कान्तिपुर एमएम अनलाइन मा प्रमुखताका साथ प्रकाशित भएका थिए ।
माओवादी चन्दा संकलनबारे समाचार लेखेपछि त्रिपाठीलाई माओवादी चितवन इञ्चार्ज ‘अविनास’ (घनश्याम पौडेल) ले ज्यान मार्ने धम्की दिएका थिए । त्यसपछि उनलाई अमेरिकी राजदूत जेम्स एफ. मोरियार्टी, नेपालस्थित संयुक्त राष्ट्रसंघीय कार्यालय (UNMIN), रेडक्रस, नेपाल पत्रकार महासंघसहित थुप्रै मानवअधिकार संस्था र संगठनहरूले संरक्षण दिएका थिए । कान्तिपुर र द काठमाडौँ पोस्ट ले सम्पादकीयमार्फत उनको पक्षमा आवाज उठाएका थिए ।
त्रिपाठीले पर्यटन क्षेत्रको विकास र प्रवर्द्धनमा पनि पत्रकारिता मार्फत उल्लेखनीय योगदान गरेका छन् । उनी पर्यटन पत्रकार मञ्चका संस्थापक सचिव तथा दोस्रो कार्यकालका अध्यक्ष थिए । उनले पर्यटनसम्बन्धी विविध कार्यक्रमहरू सञ्चालन गरेका छन् ।
त्रिपाठीले मुस्ताङ जिल्लाबाट कोरला नाकासम्बन्धी समाचारहरू पनि प्रमुखताका साथ लेखेका छन्, जुन कान्तिपुर र द काठमाडौँ पोस्ट मा प्राथमिकताका साथ प्रकाशित भएका थिए ।
कान्तिपुर पब्लिकेशन्समा उपसम्पादकको रूपमा १५ वर्ष कार्यरत रहँदा उनले सामाजिक विकृति, अन्धविश्वास, महिला हिंसा, कुरीति, अज्ञानता, धर्मको नाममा हुने गलत संस्कार, भारतबाट नेपालमा भित्रिएका विकृति, अपराध, र पछौटेपन विरुद्ध सशक्त समाचार, लेख र फीचर लेखेका थिए । उनका लेखहरूले समाजमा चेतना फैलाउन र आधुनिक समाज निर्माणमा योगदान पुर्याएका छन् ।
भरतपुर महानगरको विकासमा पनि उनका समाचारहरूको भूमिका रहँदै आएको छ ।
कान्तिपुरपछि त्रिपाठी सौर्य राष्ट्रिय दैनिकमा सम्पादक नियुक्त भए । त्यसपछि अनलाइनपाना डटकम मा प्रधान सम्पादक, समाचार दैनिक डटकम मा सम्पादक, पद्मा मिडिया ग्रुपको माउन्टेन टेलिभिजन अन्तर्गत बिजनेस प्लस टेलिभिजनमा प्रमुख सम्पादक, ऐनाखबर डटकम मा प्रधान सम्पादक, सगरमाथा टेलिभिजन मा कन्सल्टिङ एडिटर, नेपाल बहस डटकम, खबरहब डटकम, लोकान्तर डटकम मा स्तम्भकारका रूपमा तथा नारी टेलिभिजन मा प्रोडक्सन प्रमुखको रूपमा कार्यरत रहे ।
हाल उनी राष्ट्रिय समाचार डटकम मा प्रधान सम्पादकको जिम्मेवारी सम्हालिरहेका छन् ।
यी सबै भूमिकामा त्रिपाठीले अत्यन्त इमानदार, मूल्यनिष्ठ, लगनशील र जिम्मेवार पत्रकारका रूपमा आफ्नो परिचय दिएका छन् । विशेषगरी उनले भारतबाट नेपालमा भित्रिने विकृति, धार्मिक अतिवाद, महिला हिंसा, दाइजो प्रथा, लैंगिक भेदभाव, अन्धविश्वास, र सामाजिक संकीर्णताविरुद्ध दृढताका साथ लेखन र अभिव्यक्ति गरेका छन् ।
उनका लेख, अन्तर्वार्ता र वक्तव्यहरूमा नेपालका मौलिक संस्कारको पक्षमा र भारतीय प्रभाव तथा विकृतिको विरोधमा ठोस धारणा पाइन्छ ।
नेपालका चर्चित पूर्व सञ्चारकर्मी तथा हाल राष्ट्रिय स्वतन्त्र पार्टीका सभापति रवि लामिछानेको पक्षमा पनि उनले खुलेर आवाज उठाएका छन् । यस्तै, कुलमान घिसिङको न्याय पक्षमा पनि उनी निरन्तर बोल्दै आएका छन् ।
पत्रकार त्रिपाठी ‘पर्यटन पत्रकारिता राष्ट्रिय पुरस्कार’, ‘नारायणी टुडे पत्रकारिता पुरस्कार’ लगायत एक दर्जनभन्दा बढी पुरस्कार र सम्मानबाट सम्मानित भइसकेका छन् ।

Senior Journalist Binod Tripathi: From Past to Present in Nepali Journalism

Binod Tripathi is a senior journalist in Nepal with over 30 years of continuous service in the field. He has played a significant role in mainstream journalism and is known for his integrity, courage, and dedication.
Born in Kalikasthan village of Kaski district, Tripathi currently resides in Lamaswara, Pokhara Metropolitan City–31, though he is professionally active in Kathmandu.
He holds a bachelor’s degree in Sociology with Political Science from Tribhuvan University and has been actively writing on related subjects throughout his career.
During Nepal’s Maoist insurgency, Tripathi was recognized for his bold, fearless, and ethical reporting. Between 2003 and 2013 (2060–2070 BS), he gained widespread recognition for his work, even risking his life to save many others through his investigative journalism.
Tripathi began his career in 1995 (2052 BS) with Janamat Daily in Pokhara. He later contributed to several weekly newspapers, including Deshantar, Bimarsa, Purnajagaran, and Ghatana ra Bichar, often reporting from Pokhara.
In 2002 (2059 BS), he joined Nepal’s largest media house, Kantipur Publications Pvt. Ltd., at a time when the Maoist conflict was intensifying. He reported for over two years from remote villages of Baglung district — one of the epicenters of the conflict.
During this assignment, he was abducted by Maoist forces for three days and taken to an undisclosed forest location. He was released with the help of CPN-UML district secretary Shree Prasad Sharma and fellow journalist Harinarayan Gautam. The Maoists later issued an apology, acknowledging Tripathi's honest and impartial reporting.
Tripathi earned the trust of locals in Baglung by reporting on issues such as illegal army camps set up on civilian land in Galkot. His stories reportedly helped save lives and bring critical attention to human rights violations. Residents of Baglung continue to appreciate and praise his contributions.
He was later transferred to Kantipur’s regional office in Bharatpur, Chitwan, where he gained popularity for reporting on the Maoists' illegal extortion activities. In December 2005 (Mangsir 2062 BS), he extensively covered the Maoist cantonments in Shaktikhor, Chitwan, established after relocating from Kamidanda, Kavre. His reports were prominently featured in Kantipur Daily, The Kathmandu Post, Kantipur Online, and Kantipur MM Online.
Following his reporting on Maoist extortion, Tripathi received death threats from Chitwan in-charge "Avinash" (Ghanshyam Poudel). His safety was subsequently advocated by then-U.S. Ambassador James F. Moriarty, the United Nations Mission in Nepal (UNMIN), the Red Cross, the Federation of Nepali Journalists (FNJ), and numerous human rights organizations. Kantipur and The Kathmandu Post published editorials defending him.
Tripathi also made substantial contributions to Nepal's tourism sector through journalism. He was a founding secretary and later a two-term president of the Tourism Journalists’ Forum. He organized various tourism promotional events and initiatives.
From Mustang district, he reported extensively on the Korala border point. His stories on this topic received prominent coverage in Kantipur Daily and The Kathmandu Post.
Over his 15-year tenure as associate editor at Kantipur Publications, Tripathi wrote powerfully against social evils such as superstition, gender violence, regressive customs, and crimes associated with religious misinterpretation. He also highlighted harmful cultural imports from India that undermined Nepal’s social fabric. His articles helped promote awareness, progressive thinking, and social reform — especially in Bharatpur Metropolitan City.

Tripathi has received over a dozen awards for his work, including the National Tourism Journalism Award and the Narayani Today Journalism Award.
